Kerman is one of the must see tourist destinations in Iran which treasures many fantastic landmarks. The city of Kerman is located in the southeast of Iran Just next to the Lut desert. Kerman Is the capital of a province with the same name which is the largest province of Iran. According to historians the history of Kerman at least dates back to the fourth Millennium BC, as if by reading the history of this city, you´ll read the history of the country. The name of the city is mentioned in the Achaemenids’ tablets and also some Sassanid inscriptions. In fact, this city used to be called as Karmania. But, it has said that the present city was founded by the Sassanid King, Ardeshir l, the city was called “Govashir”.

Definitely, the main tourist site in Kerman province is Bam Citadel which is dated in the Achamanids era about 2500 years ago. The Golden era of this historic site of Iran, refers to the 7th century until the 11th century, when it was the hub of producing silk garments. Bam Citadel is the largest adobe-made structure in the world and registered in the UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Unfortunately, Bam citadel was leveled by an earthquake in 2003, but thanks to the Iranian and Italian archaeologists it has been repaired and raised again.

Ganjali Khan complex is another tourist attractions of Iran that is located in the historical center of Kerman. This historic complex was built during the Safavid era by the local governor of the city, about 500 years ago, Including a bazar, a square, a caravanserai, a mosque, a bath, a cistern and a mint. The same as other urban complexes of Iran, Ganjali Khan complex was a place of gathering and governorship.

Shazdeh garden is another tourist point of Iran, locating in Kerman province, that is the 9th Persian garden registered in the UNESCO’s world heritage list. It is one of the biggest and the most beautiful Iranian gardens, being built during the 19th century by the order of the local governor of Kerman. Miraculously, this garden was built in the middle of the desert. But, how? In fact, by a Persian technique, called Qanat, they could transfer aquifer or subterranean water into the garden.

Among must-see places of Iran, Meymand village should be mentioned. It is a troglodyte rocky village that is another World Heritage site of Iran. This historic village is one of the oldest surviving habitats in the world, at least since about 12000 years ago. This majestic village is located to the northeast of Kerman province, in Shahr Babak city. Also this historic village has won the first Melina Mercury award, every two years this award is handed to the effects with special cultural and historical features by Greece and IKOMOS, the international organization of museum.

Perhaps the most fascinating tourist site of this region is the archaeological site of Konar Sandal in Jiroft city. Discovery of this old civilization let some doubt and escape to see them about the oldest known civilization in the world, the civilizations of Sumerian. The archaeologists have found many surprising objects and crafts in this archeological deposit, such as; one of the largest ziggurats in the world, a castle, the statue of a deity and more importantly some unknown inscriptions. It has said that it could be the lost civilization of Arata.

This tourist destination of Iran is an arid land located near the lut desert, in Persian “Dasht-e Lut”. This majestic place is one of the Iran’s world heritages and considered as one of the warmest places in the world. In fact, the record is referred to Shahdad Desert, locating in Lut desert, where you will encounter the amazing city of Kaluts, some natural phenomenon being built by the erosive power of the wind.
