Abrkavan is the Sassanid name of Qeshm Island, which according to historical documents has gone through many ups and downs over the years. Qeshm Geopark is one of the most beautiful sights of Qeshm Island, Geopark is a region with a large and defined area that has several important geological phenomena in its heart. In some parts of the Geopark, in addition to plant and animal species specific to the region, birds such as flamingos, swallows, nectarines and nightingales can be seen. Qeshm Geopark was registered in 2006 and became a member of the UNESCO-sponsored global network of Geopark to become the first and only registered Geopark in the Middle East and Iran.
Erosion of sands and rocks over the years has created a valley on the southeastern side of Qeshm Island, known as the “Star Valley”. This beautiful and vast valley is a part of Qeshm geopark and has many stories in its heart. One of these stories indicates the collision of a star with this point of the earth and the formation of colored soil in Qeshm.
Harra forest or mangrove forest
The mangrove forests are known as the green gold of Qeshm Island and are the habitat of trees that have roots in water. This forest is one of the rare natural phenomena in the world whose trees are green all year and their length reaches 3 to 6 meters. The mangrove forest is a national protected area and an international wetland that has also been registered as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. What is very interesting about this forest is that they absorb saline water and naturally produce fresh water after filtering out the salt in the water.
Chah Kuh strait
One of the most extraordinary sights of Qeshm island is called Chah Kuh Strait, which is located in the northwest of the island. The height of the walls of this natural attraction of Iran is very high and for this reason there is little light inside the valley. Chah Kuh Strait has rocks and statue-like rocks that have formed naturally over time, and each of them can make you watch for hours. In fact, it is attributed by this name due to the existence of wells and canals that were dug at the beginning of the valley. These wells are designed to store water and are filled after each rain. Small wells drilled in Chah Kuh strait have given a spectacular beauty to this area. One of the salient features of Chah Kuh Strait is the walls of this region, which are impermeable to water, and this has made people able to store more water.
Valley of Statues
Many people confuse the Statue Valley with the Star Valley, but the two are completely separate and have many differences in appearance. In the past, the valley of the statues was a high and rocky surface under water, which after coming out of the water, suffered from coastal erosion and destruction. The shapes engraved on the huge stones of this beautiful valley are not man-made and all of them are created by nature! Another beauty of this valley is that you can find unique patterns of engraved shapes on the rocks of the valley which has made it a picturesque view.

Namakdan Cave is located in the middle of a brilliant hill and it is mentioned as one of the valuable treasures hidden in the beautiful island of Qeshm. The salt cave on Qeshm Island, six kilometers long, is the largest salt cave in the world, filled with fragile salt sculptures, rivers and large salt highways. You can also see countless salt crystals in pink, purple, blue, red and white inside the cave. When you visit Qeshm Salt Cave, you can walk on thousands of small and pink salt crystals and hear the sound of breaking salt crystals under your feet. The currents of the salt river that move in the salt cave double the beauty of the cave.
The remarkable combination of historical and natural sites has greatly boosted Qeshm Island’s tourism industry. One of the attractions of Qeshm is the historical fortress of the Portuguese. This castle is located on the northern side of Qeshm Island. The castle dates back to the 16th century and was built in 1507 by a Portuguese sailor named Alfonso Alberkerk. In fact, this fort has been used as a place to store ammunition and weapons to support other forts throughout the Persian Gulf.
Hawksbill sea turtle
About 70 km to the south of Qeshm island there is a small and beautiful village, Shib Deraz, which is famous for its hawksbill sea turtles. Every year, turtles come to this area to lay their eggs from early March to late July. Due to the suitable area on the shores around Qeshm Island, this species of turtle is observed around this Island and the turtle spawning beach is a suitable pasture for these aquatic animals.
Qeshm Crocodile Park
Qeshm Crocodile Park, Nopak, is the first and only crocodile park in the Middle East located on Qeshm Island, which is active in the field of breeding and reproduction of crocodiles. In Nopak Crocodile Park, in addition to breeding these animals, tourists and visitors can get acquainted with the species of crocodiles, from their spawning to their birth. Of course, crocodiles are not the only creatures kept in this park, other animals such as partridges, peacocks, quails, monkeys, hedgehogs, etc. are also kept in Qeshm Crocodile Park.
