Meymand rocky village, world heritage sites in Iran

Since long time ago the settlement has been a controversial issue for the human being. Many factor, like the environment, have had a great impact on the style of living. Furthermore, the habitat can play an important role in the tourism. To the Southeast of Iran, in Kerman province, there is a troglodyte village where people are living in their rocky hand-dug homes.

Meymand rocky Village is located to the southeast of Iran, in Kerman province. The thing which distinguishes this man-made village from other similar places, like Cappadocia in Turkey or Kandovan village to the northwest of Iran, is that it is still a living habitat. It’s said that Meymand village is one of the oldest settlements in Iran, approximately dates back to 12000 years ago. Moreover, the excavations have revealed the current of living along the history in this astonishing tourist attraction of Iran. Some bas-reliefs decorated with animal figures or a hunting scene are just a small part of the majesty of this rocky Village. But, why they settled here? Two theories have been declared. First, they chose here as they believe in Mithraism. According to this sect, mountains represents immortality and invincibility. The second theory says that it was built by Nomads who found it with a pleasant climate to live.

This Rocky Village is the center of attraction for its troglodyte architecture. None of the houses is constructed with common material, such as; bricks, cement, etc. Instead, they have carved the heart of a mountain, in order to construct their habitat. In the constructions, they have considered some helpful parts, for example, closets, cabinets and so on. Each of the houses of this amazing rocky village, is called “Kicheh”. The entrance of the houses is a bit higher, so that the water can’t enter. The architecture is compatible with the anatomy of the humans. Moreover, these troglodyte houses can provide a pleasant weather, in winters their temperature is about 5 centigrade higher and in the summers about 6 centigrade lower than the outside.
