Each country has some secrets that are interesting to know, actually secrets are originally interesting. Iran is a country with lots of fascinating mysteries facts. The reason can be related to western medias and also the poor advertisement system in Iran. So here are some interesting truth about Iran facts.

1-They are not Arabs

The first thing is that in spite of the common believe Iranian are not Arabs. In Iran people speak Persian but there are several races living in Iran which beside Persian they speak their own language as well. To the north west people speak Turkish but that is different from the language of people from Turkey and is more similar to Azerbaijani’s. Also to the west there are some Kurds. And to the south west there are some Arabs. In fact their language is more similar to Iraqi Arabic than other kind of Arabic language. Moreover there are people to the south east of Iran speaking Baluchi. It’s somehow the same with Pakistani’s. In addition there are some Turkmen to the north of Iran. Beside all in each part of Iran accents are different, such as luri. So Iranian are not Arabs, they are Persians, but there are different ethnics.

2-Iran is not a desert

Although many think that Iran has a poor nature, it absolutely pure and varied. In Iran you can see four seasons of the year at the same time. For instance if you travel during summer, the weather is cool to the northwest while it is extremely hot to the south, specially near the Persian Gulf. During winter you can go ski in some resorts or lay down in beach to the south. In spring you will enjoy the amazing atmosphere of the new year an the freshness of the nature. And during autumn the colorful nature will surprise you. Also in Iran you can see volcanos, mountains, jungles, deserts, rivers, waterfalls, springs, sea, lakes, Irelands and some special spices of which some are endanger, for example Asiatic Cheetah. Besides one of the hottest part of the world is located in Iran, known as Shahdad desert. The central desert and Hirakani jungles, to the north, are two natural attractions that are registered in the UNESCO’s world heritage list.

3-How about women

Surprisingly most of the university students are women. Based on the statistics 60 percent of university students are women and 70 percent of them are studying in Engineering or science fields. So it seems that women are more educated in Iran. Also it’s obligatory for them to observe their hijab in the pubic, even for tourists. However there is a wrong attitude about Iranian women, they can work, vote, drive or do anything like men.

4-The pure history

Iran is one of the oldest civilization of the world, with at least 7000 years background. Archeologists say that not only Iran is one the oldest civilizations but also is one the oldest settlement in the world. Excavators have found some objects, stone tools, in some parts of Iran date back to 800000 years ago which were belonged to first humans. Moreover the first two biggest empires through the history were founded in Iran known as Achamanid and Sassanid. In Iran there are several UNESCO world heritage sites such as Persepolis, Naqsh-e Jahan square, Chuqa Zanbil Ziggurat, the tomb of Cyrus the great, Persian gardens and so on.

Persian cats are the oldest of their own kind that settle in Iran. They have some special features such as; their heads are more rounded, ears are smaller, they have little mouths and drowsy eyes. In addition Persian cats are calm, cute and pretty which help to adopt them easier. Their silk wool help them to tolerate cold weather. Actually they were transported to Europa during the 16th century by Italian merchants. They can livre for 15 to 20 years.

6-Iran flag

The current flag of Iran is replaced in 1980, the figure of lions with swords while holding a crown is replaced by the name of Allah. Also they added 22 inscriptions of Allah in the margins. Iran flag has three colors. The green means civilization, white represents peace and red is the symbol of martidom.

7-What does Iran mean?

Iran means the land of Arians. During the second millennium BC Arians immigrated to different parts of the world, probably from Siberia. Three tribes of Arian departed to Iran, Parthian settled to the northwest of Iran, Medians to the west and to the center and Persians chose south. In fact the name is influenced by the name of the settlement of Arians in Siberia. According to Avesta, the holy book of Zoroastrians, they lived in a place called “Iriana vaej”.

8-The climate of Iran

In most part of Iran there are a few rainy days, so they always have to do something in order to meet their needs. Ancient Iranian invented a system of supplying water known as Qantas. In this system they transfer water from distances by making some tunnels. Besides there are some vertical shafts in some specific distances, mostly in each 100 meters, to ventilate and in some cases to have an easy access for maintenance or something like that. This method of irrigation and supplying of water is registered in the UNESCO’s world heritage list, so if you travel to Iran it is better to take look at some Qantas.

9-What about exports?

Iran has some exports which the most important one is petroleum. Iran produce about 10 percent of petroleum of the world. Almost 60 percent of oil of the world is in Persian Gulf. Caviar, pistachio, saffron, date, dies, some mineral stones and metals such as cooper and carpet are other exports of Iran. Also about 50 percent of Caviar produced in Iran, Caviar is a kind of fish existing for millenniums, it is one of the oldest creatures and can live up to 100 years, but unfortunately it is endanger. Some environmentalists demand the full prohibition fishing of Caviar.

10-Carpets and their philosophy

Historian believe that the first advents of carpet weaving was in Iran, at least 2500 years ago. Archeologist found a carpet in a cemetery in Siberia, known as Paziric carpet, near the borders of Achamanid dynasty. In addition the design of Persian carpets has a unique style which is known as Persian carpet around the world. It is amazing to know that craftsmen always put an error in their work. Why? It is a philosophy that the only perfect thing is God and others are full of faults.

11-They have appetizing dishes

Iranian food are absolutely delicious and varied. They generally like sweet food and also sometime hot and spicy but not as hot as Indians. Iranian always love to use fresh ingredients such as fruit, vegetable, nut and grain. Actually their most popular cuisine are “Ghormeh sabzi, “Abgusht or Dizi”, roast chicken with rice known as “Joojeh kebab”, kebab, etc. When you are talking about beverages it goes to yoghurt and black tea. 12-Taarof is an unknown custom

Iranians known with their compliments, it is called “Taarof” in Iran. In fact this action comes from their sociability and outgoing manner and they always use it. When you travel to Iran you will get it better how it becomes a custom among them.

13-There are lots of holidays

Iran has the most holidays in the world, about 25 days. Most of them are related to religion, as the death or birth of Imams of Shia Muslims. How ever they have some cultural holidays such as Nowruz which seems to be the most important one. Nowruz is the Iranian new year festival. It is at the first day of spring and celebrations will continue for two weeks when it ends in the 13th day called “sizdah be dar”. But it officially known as nature day and Iranians always go on a picnic in the countries. In addition there are some other traditional celebrations which are not holiday. For instance “saddeh”, the celebration of exploring fire or “Chaharshanbe suri”, at the last Wednesday of the year before Nowruz. Besides there are other local ceremonies in different parts of Iran.

14-The Capital

Tehran is the capital of Iran and literary means “the warm slope”. It’s one of the most polluted city in the world and has about 17 million populations. In fact the city has been chosen as the capital since 19th century. Some historians believe that the 3 wise magi, mentioned in Bible, are buried there, they were Zoroastrian magi or zoroastrian high priests whom traveled to Betlehem to see Christ when he born.

15-They are Shia Muslim

The majority of Iranian are Muslims, most of them are Shia Muslim. But there people following other religions such as Zoroastrians, Jews and Christians. Each religion has someone in the parliament.

16-The name of the country

The country used to be called as Persia but due to the request of Muhammad Reza Shah, The last Iranian King, it changed to Iran. Moreover after the Islamic revolution it became “The Islamic Republic Of Iran”. The government is a religious legal system based on Islamic and secular laws.

It was during Achamanid dynasty that they constructed some buildings in the middle of the roads, known as Chapar Khaneh, and the postman changed his horse at each Chapar Khaneh, which helped it to be faster. Furthermore the first carpets were weaved in Iran. In addition they had the first system of insurance, according to explored tablets in persepolis during the constructions of Persepolis, all the workers were under insurance, they were paid for their job and surprisingly women had their maternity during their pregnancy.

20-The nuclear issue

In recent years, there was always news about Iran’s nuclear power that make it a controvetial issue. The controversy begins with that some western country, specially the US claimed Iran is trying to produce nuclear weapons. However Iran always insist on having a peaceful technology. In addition their supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, prohibited having or making nuclear and even chemical weapons. Finally Iran and Western countries, known as 5+1 group, reached an agreement in 2016, after negotiating for 12 years, which seemed to be the end of arguments. But president Donald Trump, the president of the US withdraw from the treaty in 2018 and put heavy sanctions instead. Since then Iran and others are remained in that agreement but recently Iran announced that they will withdraw gradually until the European countries meet Iran’s rights, according to that treaty.
